My Monthly Freelance Income Report – August 2013

September 2, 2013

Welcome to my August 2013 freelance income report!

Things are changing on this blog, and you can read all about that here.

This is the third post of my freelance income report series where I share my monthly progress with my freelance business. I’ll first cover the important happenings of the month that may have effects to my earnings. Then, I’ll break down the sources of my income and conclude the post with what I have planned for the future.

I choose to do these posts not only to help myself keep track of my freelance business’s progress, but to also show other freelancers what’s working and what’s not working for me.

I believe in complete transparency in my writing, and hope that it can give you some inspiration.

If you’re just starting out, please understand that finding clients and making money online is not something that happens overnight. It takes a lot of time, hard work and dedication.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave those at the bottom of this post or shoot me an email to chat in private. Thanks!

Important happenings in August

I mentioned last month in July that there were some pivotal moments for me, but that doesn’t even compare the slap in the face this month has been.

Let me just say, the feast or famine cycle for freelancers is real!

If you haven’t been keeping up to date on what’s been going on with my freelancing, I made some major changes to how I’m running things around here. These changes are better for everyone – you, future readers, potential clients, and myself.

You can read all about the changes I'm making in depth here.

In a nutshell, August was spent evaluating my online presence, improving my freelance business internally, and making progress on side projects.

Although I took on very little client work, I’m still happy with the overall changes and progress I’ve made internally in my freelance career.

I’m so excited to bring YourFreelanceCareer.com to life! If you haven’t checked it out yet, go here and subscribe to the newsletter if interested. You also get a free download for this ebooklet: "22 Simple Tasks That Will Better Your Freelance Career"

With all of that said, how were my earnings affected by this month?

Important notes about this month’s earnings: Ugh — a huge drop in my income! My lowest earning month in 2013!

Yes this looks bad, and maybe even makes me look like an amateur, but it’s the reality of freelancing. And to be honest, I’m not worried one bit. I actually feel better than ever with my freelance career!

I’ve reevaluated my freelance business, made some major changes and I’m taking action. I’m making a lot of progress too, and that’s what’s important.

If I were earning that little each month and not making any progress elsewhere, then I would have some serious issues to deal with.

Lastly, It’s important to mention that I’ve been saving like crazy this year, so although I had my lowest earning this month, I’m still able to afford living, and happily I might add.

As I’ve said in many of my posts on making money by freelancing: At the end of the day, if you truly love what you’re doing and you’re able to survive, it seems to me that money and fame would be the last goal on my mind.

Plans for September

What helps lessen my stress is knowing that I do have some current client leads in the pipeline. Thank goodness for that! So I plan on working with my lovely clients as usual, on top of continuing progress on YourFreelanceCareer.com and my two ebooks.

I’m currently putting the finishing touches on the content for my first ebook: Kickstarting the next big step in my freelance career – check out the cover design here.

As for Start Your Freelance Career, I’ve officially started writing the content!
